For kids this month at your library

Children 4-12 years of age are invited to visit the Downtown Library anytime during open hours between September 29 and October 19 to pick up a skeleton to decorate. The deadline to return your finished product is no later than 5 p.m. Saturday, October 19. The parade of skeletons will adorn the Downtown Library lobby for judging for two weeks. Winners in two age groups 4-8 and 9-12, will be announced and given prizes at the Awards Ceremony on November 2nd at 1 p.m. There will be a prize for Patron Favorite, so be sure to tell everyone to come see your work of art! 

Invitamos a niños de 4-12 años a visitar la Biblioteca Downtown en nuestras horas regulares desde el 29 de Septiembre hasta el 19 de Octubre, para recoger un esqueleto para decorar en casa. La fecha de cierre para entregar el esqueleto terminado es el Sábado 19 de Octubre a las 5 p.m. Los esqueletos adornarán el lobby de la Biblioteca Downtown por dos semanas mientras se realiza la votación. The Book Buddies Pony Express Therapy Dogs, in partnership with the East Hills Library, are offering children a way to improve their reading skills in a unique and fun environment. This program utilizes therapy dogs as the listeners for children of all ages and reading levels.  Drop in anytime during this 90 minute session.

 Please join us for fall Storytime! We will read exciting stories and finish our session with a themed craft. 

Get ready to sing, dance, read, and have so much fun with Ms. Misty for preschool Storytime at the East Hills Library!

Activities will be geared toward ages 3-6.

If you and your child enjoy crafts, games, movies and a variety of fun activities, get to Washington Park Library for Tricky Tuesday! 

Join us as we try out our new yard games in the park. Yard games are available for checkout for use on library grounds only.

The games were purchased with funds from the Urban Homestead grant.

Our weekly movie event is hosted by professional movie critic Bob Shultz. This week’s movie is Death Becomes Her (1992) 103 Minutes, PG-13. 

Hard of hearing? We have t-coil looping technology installed in the theater for hearing aids. Thank you to the Sertoma Club of St. Joseph for providing this state-of-the-art technology in the theater!

Children, ages 18 months-3 years, and their caring adults, can participate in early literacy enhancing activities including books, songs, movement activities, finger plays and flannel stories.

Featuring fun crafts that maybe wacky for the time of year. Available every Wednesday. While supplies last.

Not recommended for children under 3.

Walk, crawl or run for storytime at the Carnegie Library during our fall storytime session. Each session will end with a craft.

Come to the Downtown Library and for a fun filled session of reading and crafts with Lisa and Robyn! Make new friends and learn some new skills. We can't wait to see you there!

*Older siblings welcome to attend, but toys and activities will be appropriate for 0-18 months. No additional toys will be available in the space.

With 14 species of bats who call Missouri home, there is no shortage of interesting things to learn about our only flying mammal.
