Use of Photographs Owned by SJPL

The collections of the St. Joseph Public Library contain valuable information relating to the history of St. Joseph and Buchanan County. The collections are maintained by the library staff and are available for use by the public.

Terms and Conditions of Use of Photographs and Photographic Reproductions

Reproductions of photographs and photographic or other electronic or mechanical reproductions of books, publications, documents, historical souvenirs and other items (photographs) in the collection of the St. Joseph Public Library may be used only after written request to and approval by the Director or other employee designated by the Director of the St. Joseph Public Library.

Any individual, organization or business (user) who wants to use any photograph(s) must submit a written request which includes the purpose and form in which the photograph(s) will be used, which photograph(s) will be used, and the date or approximate date of use.

Permission, when given, will be limited to one-time use. Any re-use of the same photograph(s) will require that the user submit an additional request and receive approval from the St. Joseph Public Library.

Photographic credit must be given to “The St. Joseph Public Library, St. Joseph, Missouri.”

The user may not loan, give or sell the photograph(s) to other users without request to and approval by the St. Joseph Public Library.

The user may not reproduce and sell the photograph(s) to other users for profit.

Photograph(s) may not be altered, cropped or manipulated in any way that will change the historical accuracy or content.

Any cost associated with preparing or reproducing photograph(s) will be paid by the user.

Historic photographs and other items in the collections of the St. Joseph Public Library may not be removed from the library premises except with prior written approval of the Director of the library.

St. Joseph Public Library reserves the right to limit or refuse to allow the use of photographs or photographs of items from its collection if the library’s staff or legal representative believe their use would not be in the best interest of the library.

St. Joseph Public Library observes the copyright laws of the United State and may refuse to provide photographs or photographs of item from its collections if library staff or its legal representative believe their production may violate those laws.
