St. Joseph Public Library
Display Policy

A library display is a display that promotes library materials or services and/or offers our community an educational, recreational, or cultural experience. Displays are planned for the interest and enlightenment of St. Joseph and surrounding communities’ citizens.

St. Joseph Public Library (SJPL) strives to offer a variety of displays for all ages that support the mission of the library and reflect the broad range of community interests. Displays may be planned and presented by library staff or by individuals or groups with the library acting as a co-sponsor. Displays may be in any section of SJPL libraries or at other locations in the community.

Every branch should offer a variety of in-house displays that appeal to various ages. Such displays change as each library sees fit. Displays must include an age designation, according to the age appropriateness of the display.

Selection of library display topics, themes, and materials will be made by library staff on the basis of the interest and needs of the community and library users. The library does not offer displays that are purely commercial in nature.

Displays are not allowed to serve as a platform for generating income for any sponsoring group or individual, except funds to support the library. Library displays may be used to announce library or community information or advertise upcoming SJPL and affiliated events or programs. Displays should avoid showing political or religious bias.

Library sponsorship of a display does not constitute an endorsement of the business or location where the display is and the library takes no responsibility of the views or actions taken by individuals where the display is located.

Library displays shall not be restricted because of racial, religious, socioeconomic, age, or political status. Some displays may be designed with specific audiences in mind.
