The office of Missouri’s secretary of state wants public libraries to act in the best interest of children.  We have long done that at the St. Joseph Public Library and know that it is a priority and practice of public libraries throughout the state.  The secretary of state’s office wants parental oversight.  So does the St. Joseph Public Library. Parents and guardians should be interested and involved in what their children read, see, and hear.

The SJPL Board of Trustees passed a resolution related to the administrative rule  (15 CSR 30-200.015) that was proposed by the office of the secretary of state. Library Director, Mary Beth Revels, submitted a comment to the office of the secretary of state about the rule’s impact to SJPL.

The comment period is open until December 15.  If you would like to comment by email send it to comments@sos.mo.gov. Type 15 CSR 30-200.015 in the subject field. By mail send to: Missouri Secretary of State, PO Box 1767, Jefferson City, MO 65102.
