HOURLY RATE: $15.00

JOB STATUS: Part-time, 15 hours per week, includes evenings and weekends, Nonexempt

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Reports to branch manager or designated supervisor. Shelves books and other materials and performs routine clerical duties at a public service desk; does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provides exemplary customer service;
• Interacts with staff and patrons of all ages with patience and kindness;
• Assists other staff members when needed and contributes in a positive way to team morale;
• Shelves books and other materials;
• Performs routine lifting, bending, squatting and reaching from floor level to six feet in height;
• Uses library equipment such as copiers and assists patrons with copiers as needed;
• Assists in light custodial duties, helps move furniture for programs and dusts shelves;
• Reads shelves to ensure that all materials are in proper order;
• Assists in inventory;
• Handles clerical duties such as those relating to filing, shelving and keeping statistics;
• Obtains materials for users from non-public locations;
• Gives routine information to the public;
• Retrieves Book Drop;
• Performs opening and closing duties;
• May have special projects assigned;
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to work in a physically demanding position, with continuous lifting of objects that can weigh up to 50 pounds;
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions;
• Ability to shelve with no more than two errors the equivalent of 180 items after a training period of one month;
• Ability to work quickly and accurately;
• Ability to attend to detail and to organize and prioritize work load;
• Ability to be organized;
• Ability to get along well with others;
• Ability to deal with the public and offer excellent customer service;
• Ability to work with staff in a consistently tactful and courteous manner.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Completion of a minimum of two years of high school with some library experience helpful; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
