The 1930s were a lawless and violent era in the U.S.; legendary criminals such as Bonnie and Clyde still loom large in the American psyche. St. Joseph had its own version of the outlaw couple: Clarence and Juanita Spargur. Violent and rapacious, their exploits were splashed across the front pages of the region in the mid-1930s.
