John Grimes Presents the Recovery of WWI American Soldiers

Mr. Grimes presents his investigative information about fifty men buried in a WWI battlefield cemetery in Linthal, France.
Hubert Martin, President of the Memorial History Society Alsace, France contacted the city of St. Joseph in March 2017 for information about a local soldier, who was one of the fifty soldiers killed near Linthal, France during World War I. The request for research and information was then referred to the Northwest MO Genealogical Society and John Grimes, a retired Master Gunnery Sergeant, United States Marine Corps.and local historian began his search for information.
Mr. Grimes researched the men for two years. The soldiers were memorialized after the war with a monument, however it was destroyed by German soldiers during World War II. A new monument was dedicated in September 2018 in Linthal, France commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
