Early Literacy Celebration
August 27 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Washington Park Library: For children aged 6 and under and their families and caregivers. The Early Literacy Celebration is an annual event to encourage families to read, sing, and play together, both in and out of the library. In partnership with United Way Success by 6 and Parents as Teachers, the St. Joseph Public Library will host an indoor/outdoor party for pre-kindergarten kids. Through stories, games and activities, children and parents can practice building a variety of pre-reading skills together.
Each child in attendance will receive a free book, and all attendees can enjoy a free picnic-style meal served by the Kiwanis Club of St. Joseph, MO. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy their meal on the lawn of Washington Park Library. Food and free books are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
This event is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
